Iaido is a martial art which
began in Japan,
during 16th
century, when war and fighting
were common. It is a series of "katas", in
which the Iaidoka,
practitioner, draws the
sword in response to an attack,
disposes of
the opponent, and returns the sword to the
scabbard. It is the
practice of sword technique.
The characters in the name "Iai" indicate
a
harmony with the environment and a readiness
to deal with any situation.
The practice of Iai
leads to development of these qualities.
The
"do" in Iaido is the same as in Kendo,
Judo, etc,
and means "the way".
